In the Cross Stitcher Magazine this Month
April 29, 2008 by Melinda
In the June issue of The Cross Stitcher Magazine look for my new Spring Garden Fairy Bookmark design. Quick to stitch up, this design features a lovely garden fairy and her blue forget-me-not flowers for your favorite book for summer reading. A joy to stitch with light, spring colors.

Hello,
I’m trying to start my own cross stitch design business and I was curious if you could give me any advice.
I do have a few of my designs posted on my blog, just the patterns, as I haven’t stitched examples yet.
Any critiques would be welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Wendi
Yarn Tree has a good Business to Business section on their website you might like to start with. The link is http://yarntree.com/ and the Business section is at the bottom of the main page. It is a good starting point in your business research to learn about trade shows, distributors, publishing, etc. They have a wonderful website in general for you to look at to get an idea of current designs, designers, products, etc.

Thank you. I’ll take a look.

Hi Wendi,
It is a starting point to learn about the many varied aspects of the needlearts business. There are many other resources available on the web that are informative as well. A good book to start with is “Publish Your Patterns! How to Write, Print, and Market Your Designs” by Nancy Restuccia ISBN 0971450137. I also suggest you read any book by Barbara Brabec.

Congratulations on being in the magazine..I’ll look for it on the newstands!
