Haiku Crazy Quilt Block update
April 1, 2008 by Melinda
I managed to find some time this weekend to work on my Haiku crazy quilt block. I added some dandelion seeds made from bullion knots and DMC Pearlescent Effects scattered here and there, lots of fly stitches, lazy daisy stitches, seed beads and some vintage lace.
I have piqued my kids’ interest as well, which is a great added benefit. Both have come over to offer their thoughts on color choices and placement of stitches, which I think is just fantastic. They have flipped through my stitch books to offer thoughts on new stitches to try. Lots of discussion has begun about how big the quilt will be (no idea yet), will I make duplicate blocks (quite possibly), what other fabrics do I think I will use (endless combinations and as-of-yet unthought of), etc. I will be sure to engage my kids as much as possible in this whole process. They are both quite leary of picking up a needle and thread to try themselves. One day I’ll have them doing needlework - just when that might be I won’t be placing any bets on in the near future. They are far too interested at the moment in their Wii and Nintendo games.
