The Sampler Cross Stitch Design
March 11, 2008 by Melinda
One of my favorite things on a Monday morning is to read the Nordic Needle Newsletter . It is a wonderful connection to people from around the world who share the same passion for needlework. I highly recommend signing up for Sue & Roz’s newsletter if you already haven’t - you’ll be glad you did! Oftentimes, amongst the great stitching tips, you will find personal experiences, stories and remembrances of special people from days past who brought the love of needlework into the storytellers life. It is this recurrent theme written within each newsletter that became the inspiration for my design, “The Sampler” . The Newsletter is heartwarming to read each week and gave me much food for thought. I hope you will take a moment to visit my website to see the full cross stitch sampler, a snippet of the vignette is shown above with the Mother teaching her Daughter.
We all have stories to tell of the special people who taught us our first needlework stitches - those special people who shared their knowledge and helped us on our way: a grandmother, a mother, an aunt, a sister, a friend. I have memories of many people in my life, all of which either knit, crocheted, quilted, sewed or embroidered. I have always known that I would follow this path, not necessarily that of designing, but the personal journey of learning the needlearts. The Sampler is in honor and remembrance of these people who taught us well. Now it is our duty to pay it forward.
