Scissors Tassel Tutorial
March 2, 2008 by Melinda
In the new March 2008 edition of the ANG Needlepointers publication, there is a wonderful tutorial on making a scissors tassel. There are different finishing alternatives shown using beads and well written instructions and diagrams for making the tassel combinations.
As a fun diversion from my work this week, I decided to create a Spring scissors tassel for myself. I have to admit that it took more than a few tries to create the initial weaving of the spoked knot, but once I figured it out it went rather smoothly. A suggestion is given by the designer, Jeanne Polzin, to use a bit of scotch tape on the ends of the embroidery floss to keep all of the ends grouped together when weaving. This was a very helpful tip in ensuring that the knot remains smooth and untangled when you get to the stage of pulling the spokes tightly to create the knot.
With the wonderful array of thread products available in silks, variegated and overdyed colors, combining these with beads, the possibilities of creating many delightful variations are endless. Great tutorial!
