Handmade Cards

I had some fun over the weekend experimenting with handmade cards in lieu of the store bought kind. This one will be given to my youngest daughter who used to sing this song to me when she was in pre-school. The cards work up quickly and are simple to make with a few basic supplies.
Heavy card stock, cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″, color cream or light tan
Heavy card stock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, color mocha brown or similar
sharp embroidery needle
embroidery floss, use two strands
small pieces of fabric for shapes
scissors
craft glue
I used a program on my computer to layout the words. If you divide one sheet of paper into four equal areas you can create four cards and arrange the words in these separate areas. You also could easily use a rubber stamp set of alphabet letters and personalize the cards using the stamps.
Cut out your shapes from the fabric and spread a thin layer of craft glue on the back and glue to the card stock. Use two strands of embroidery floss and sew a blanket stitch around the edges of the fabric shapes by punching your needle through the card stock and the fabric. If you like, you may use tape to secure your thread ends on the back. I wove them through other stitches to secure. Glue the finished card top to the second, larger card stock. Will fit most standard size envelopes.
