All in a Day’s Work
January 28, 2008 by Melinda
Anyone with a pet dog or cat can probably relate to this. My dog thinks he owns my couch. At times we have small turf battles over who owns which side. The couch is situated such in my studio that it receives a good bit of sunlight during the day - a necessity while stitching my needlework projects. The problem is that Duncan likes to sleep in the sunny spot. I sit on the right side of the couch because my daylight lamp is clamped to my drafting table and the arm of it swings nicely over to where I sit and stitch. He gets a little bothersome as times and tries to nudge his way over to gain a little extra stretching room and knocks my stitching basket over sometimes. Then I will push him over and he gives me a look like “how dare you”. He’s a nosy fella too. He stretches and leans over the arm of the couch to look out the window at squirrels and neighbors walking their dogs. Heaven forbid the UPS truck should drive by. He hates the UPS truck and lets out a loud barking spree when he hears the truck rumbling up the street. He’ll do this from a dead sleep. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, but I get absorbed in my work and I jump every time. And so it goes.
I put over a solid week of work on The Sampler and all of the stitching and finishing has been completed. I hung it on the wall today so that it can drape and get used to the bellpull hardware. Now the hard part to tackle will be putting all the stitch diagrams and my finishing instructions into a logical format. I think I will put it all aside tomorrow for a bit to work on something else. I’ll be sure to let Duncan have the couch all to himself all day tomorrow as well.
