New Beginnings
January 17, 2008 by Melinda
In the end, “The Sampler” will be finished using bell pull hardware. I began stitching the needlework piece a day or so ago. After a good dose of nice, bright sunlight and viewing the threads, the bell pull and the fabric all together, I decided to go with my first inclination to use the Tumbleweed fabric. No second guessing anymore, sometimes you just need to stop spinning and run with it.
I made a visit to my local EGA guild meeting on Tuesday. I brought the beginnings of “The Sampler” and the chart. I was highly encouraged by the comments I received. I know it is hard to judge a design by a black and white chart, but they were very enthusiastic about the piece and the direction it is going in. As for the ladies, they are still working on their crazy quilts with embellishments. I loved looking over the progress and discussing their plans for the quilts. It is wonderful to see the variety of projects taking shape using bits of vintage lace, colorful silks, beads, charms, crocheted edgings. Too bad the meetings are just once a month. A good dose of laughter is good for the spirit.

And we were delighted to have you among us at the meeting! Your encouragement means a lot to us as well. As women we all need that encouragement, in fact, thrive on it!
What fun it was to see one of your designs in the making. It gives us as amatuers a look into the needlework design world. Thanks for sharing the sampler with us.
Hi Marilyn!
Thank you for your post! I look forward to February’s meeting very much. I have a truly wonderful group of knowledgeable and fun ladies to learn from at this guild and I am thankful to be a part of it.
I spent the better part of this past weekend putting my needle to work on “The Sampler”. I have made a few minor color changes, namely to incorporate some blended colors instead of solids. It creates a nicer effect. I’ll bring it back with me in February. I am sure it will be finished by then.
If you ever get a chance to try out The Gentle Art Simply Wool, I suggest you try the color Brandy. It is a honey gold color which would look perfect with your crazy quilt and it would add a very nice textural change to your silks. I used the color Dried Thyme on my Sampler and I love the feel of the thread. I highly recommend it.
See you in February!
