And they’re off…

I unintentionally started the holiday ball rolling today. I was in the check out line at the store when I spied a very festive looking holiday cookie magazine. I flipped through it while I waited in line, then put it back thinking that I already have enough cookie recipes, then I picked it up again thinking that that Snickerdoodle REALLY looked tasty, put it back down and then said the heck with it just buy it. That’s what happens in the check out line. They hook you in when you are hungry. Never go shopping hungry.
Then, when I got back home, I found my craft book club flyer in the mail. I flipped through the catalog and discovered some really wonderful new craft books. What hooked me was a book on Rag Rugs. Normally, I put the flyer aside and breeze through it later, but not today. I started reminiscing about my Grandmother and the beautiful rag rugs she made. Growing up, I remember the sturdy and colorful rugs on the floors of my Grandmother’s house. She kept old scraps of dresses, shirts, you name it, and wove them into rugs using a loom at a neighbors house. Very thrifty lady. Well… bad, bad , bad. Next thing, I’m placing my order on the phone for “101 Fun-to-Quilt Pot Holders” from the American School of Needlework and “Favorite Rag Rugs”. I will wrap these and put a tag on them saying “To Mom Love Dad” for Christmas morning.
Oh well. The holidays are here. I am sure that we’ll have to make a few batches of Snickerdoodles. Glad I got that magazine, though I’m not entirely sure I’ll ever get around to making a rag rug. It’s nice to dream and remember.
