Crazy Quilts and Friendship
October 17, 2007 by Melinda
I had the most wonderful visit yesterday with the Cape Cod Chapter of the EGA, a local guild group in my area. They are working on a correspondence course on making a crazy quilt. What wonderful color combinations I saw. I love crazy quilts as they are just so imaginative and amazing to look at. Best of all, it combines two of my favorite activities - needlework and quilting. There was a finished crazy quilt by one of the members on display and what a work of art and such a joy to look upon.
The ladies and one gentleman had worked the fabric piecing of the tops getting them ready for embellishment. Many of the folks there have picked out laces and trims, charms, and a wonderful array of fibers and threads. It was fun to see the beginning stages and the color choices because each quilt will take on a life on its own once the stitches are applied. I know this group will be thrilled to see their achievements and so very proud of their work. I was glad to take part in their fun and will make it a point to go back in the coming months to see their progress. The sense of friendship within the group was just what I needed and I was welcomed so warmly.
While visiting, I was also introduced to threads from a company that I had never heard of before Hand-dyed Fibers . I was really impressed with the color palette that Vikki, the owner of the company, used as the silk threads had really nice color combinations and color variations for stitching. She also has a nice assortment of types of threads for needlework. I will definitely investigate further.
I have been inspired to create a small piece, perhaps a top for a pillow, so that the next time I join them, I will have a piece of my own to stitch and take part in the fun. I look forward to November already!
