Don’t Blink
September 8, 2007 by Melinda
Wow, did this week fly by! Over the holiday weekend, I finished the main body of my second mitten. It took the rest of the week just to finish the thumbs and weave the yarn tails in. I am very pleased with this pair. I found them easy to knit and had much better luck matching up the patterns on the thumbs than my last pair of mittens. The pattern is called “Old Goose-Eye” and repeats every 8 stitches. It is from an old knitting book I have called “The Mitten Book” by Inger and Ingrid Gottfridsson. All summer knitting projects completed.
What’s next in my knitting journey? Socks of course! This week I took a trip to my favorite knitting store, The Yarn Basket. I found a set of 5 double-pointed size 2 bamboo needles, a small cable stitch holder and plenty of fingering weight yarn to keep me busy for a while. I recently bought a copy of “Favorite Socks” by Interweave as I liked the selection of projects that it offered, especially the “Anniversary Socks”. This new sock project will definitely be long-term as I will only be able to squeak in bits of time here or there. Needlework and designing will take priority and the bulk of my time to come.
This week I made good progress on the beginning design work on my honeybee biscornu. You can see a snippet of the honeybee stitch band on the Nantucket basket in the photo above. It’s all coming together quite nicely.
My biggest hurdle this week was getting used to the new school schedule and reorganizing my work in between. Like Kenny Chesney says in his song, “Don’t Blink”. This week went by REALLY fast.

Hi Melinda,
When I saw that you had commented on my blog, I remembered that I wanted to look up “The Mitten Book” which you mentioned. Sure enough I have that very book…have no idea when or where I got it but it has a $2.00 price tag on it!
I think I am being inspired to try a pair of mittens… I am attracted to the Lingonberry pattern. If it is the hardest one in the book…please don’t tell me!
That’s a good bargain! I picked my copy up about eight years ago. So far I have worked four pairs of mittens from this book: Old Goose-Eye, Snowstar, Four-leaf clover and Rose wreath. Lingonberry looks pretty straight forward. Snowstar was a challenge for me! The best thing I love about this book is the fact that you can mix and match cuff patterns and main body patterns as long as you keep the stitch count in mind. Thanks for the post!
