Music to my Ears
August 10, 2007 by Melinda
“Mom, can I quilt today?” This was the question put to me Wednesday morning by my oldest daughter. Music to my ears. Excited because we had found some fat quarters of Disney prints with Tigger and Roo, she couldn’t wait to get going on her next quilt. I started her off with a simple pattern, which I think is called a “pinwheel”. Cut long strips 2 1/2″ wide of your fabric, alternate your fabrics and sew into long strips. Then I cut them into pieces measuring 4 1/2″ square (I’m not quite ready to hand over the rotary cutter just yet). I demonstrated how to place your squares to form the pinwheel and to get your point exact in the middle. Then she took off! For two days now she has been steady at it on my sewing machine and ironing her seams flat with the iron. She has it all spread out on the table as she goes along. I have no doubt she’ll be back at it today.
Wow! Pretty cool stuff to know that I have made a difference in one young person’s life by turning on the “crafting switch”.
