Library Book Sale
June 23, 2007 by Melinda
Every year in my hometown a group called the Friends of the Falmouth Library puts on a book sale on the library lawn. The book sale has row after row of tables sprawled on the green grass under the magnificent trees and great white tents. It is like a great treasure hunt to find books and you never know what you will find. I look forward to it every year and often visit multiple times as they add items to fill space as the books are sold. Usually I am found hovering over the craft section (of course!), but I can be spotted amongst the gardening and cooking selections as well. I find the fiction tables to be a high competition area with little elbow room and tend to not peruse this area too much (though I still do make a scan of what is there!) I can get these selections from the library throughout the year as I need.
I love books. I am a book collector with stacks of them cluttering up my studio floor because I ran out of shelf space. I love to read. Every year I round up books and cull out the ones that I no longer want to keep. They are brought to the Friends of the Falmouth Library to make the rounds again and find a new home.
Last year I found a wonderful book on upholstery with well-defined illustrations and diagrams thinking that just maybe I could use it to finish that cushion I’ve been meaning to make for the bench. I found two books with knitting patterns for sweaters. Buried deep in the pile I hit the jackpot with a collection of five Singer books on sewing for the home and family. I also found a fantastic reference book for needlepoint stitches. I added to my gardening collection by adding some books on bonsai and Sunset gardening books.
The sale doesn’t start until next Friday. The tents are being raised now on the library lawn. I wonder what I’ll find this year?
